Sheinbaum reveals South Korea's response on BTS concerts

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that South Korea's president responded to her letter requesting additional BTS concert dates in Mexico. Meanwhile, Profeco launched proceedings against Ticketmaster for irregularities in ticket sales, potentially facing a fine of up to 5 million pesos.

During her morning conference on February 2, 2026, President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed the response from South Korea's president to a previously sent diplomatic letter. The letter sought additional dates for BTS concerts in Mexico City or alternatives like screens for fans, given the high demand. Sheinbaum detailed: “Yes, he replied that they are already in contact with the promoting company and hope to get in touch soon. Let's hope for good news.” She added that the South Korean leader stated: “Many thanks to the Mexicans for their interest in this musical group; he greatly appreciates the letter and has already contacted BTS's producing company. He hopes they will contact us soon.”

The interest arose after BTS concert ticket sales, where Ticketmaster reported 2.1 million users attempting to purchase tickets, but only 136,400 were available, representing 6.4% of demand. There was a peak of over 1.1 million people in the virtual queue. The company clarified no dynamic pricing was used, prices remained fixed, and sales were digital only, without physical tickets.

In the same briefing, Iván Escalante Ruiz, head of Profeco, announced the start of proceedings against Ticketmaster for law violations, stemming from complaints about clarity in sales information. The company was notified on January 28 and has 10 business days to present evidence, until February 12. The fine could reach 5 million pesos. Additionally, Profeco sent electronic exhorts to resale platforms like StubHub, Viagogo, and Hello Ticket, based in the United States, Switzerland, and Spain, respectively. These must comply with Mexican regulations or face legal actions and possible operational restrictions.

Profeco is collaborating with the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency to develop guidelines on advertising, information, and ticket sales for concerts, to be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation in the coming weeks.
