Public trust in Indonesian police rises to 76.2 percent

A Litbang Kompas survey in October 2025 shows public trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has risen significantly to 76.2 percent. The increase follows a decline after major riots at the end of August. Polri's Head of Public Relations welcomed the survey results positively.

The Litbang Kompas survey conducted in October 2025 involved 1,200 respondents from 38 provinces in Indonesia. It recorded that 76.2 percent of the public expressed trust and strong trust in Polri, while satisfaction with the institution's performance reached 65.1 percent.

This rise in trust occurred after a previous decline following major riots at the end of August. Polri's Head of Public Relations, Inspector General Pol Sandi Nugroho, expressed appreciation for the survey results. "We are currently awaiting concrete evidence from Litbang Kompas, as the information was newly obtained from social media and mass media. The results will then be reported to the Chief of Police," said Sandi Nugroho.

The survey also highlighted improvements in Polri's service quality over the past two months. The public rated services as increasingly better, friendlier, and non-discriminatory based on economic or religious backgrounds. Data privacy is better protected, administrative processes are easier, reports are handled faster, and people feel safer when dealing with police.

Transparency in case handling has also increased, although ease of monitoring report progress and quick responses to complaints still need improvement. The Head of Public Relations affirmed Polri's commitment to continuous improvement. "Polri is not an institution that is anti-criticism. We always listen to aspirations and input from the public," he stated.

Various improvement efforts are being carried out with the reform acceleration team, aiming to enhance professionalism and accountability. Litbang Kompas analysis points to strengthened internal supervision and service mechanism reforms as key factors. The establishment of the Polri Transformation Reform Team and the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission is seen as a structured step to bolster reforms, making Polri more professional, open, and trusted by the public.
