Star Wars: Galactic Racer confirms podracing return amid trailer concerns

Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster has reassured fans that iconic podracing will feature prominently in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, following concerns from the game's initial trailer at The Game Awards 2025. The spiritual successor to classics like Episode I: Racer promises diverse vehicles and modes, set for 2026 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Fans expressed worry after the Star Wars: Galactic Racer trailer at The Game Awards 2025 omitted podracing vehicles. A late tease showing Sebulba, Anakin Skywalker's rival from The Phantom Menace, sparked hope—but Fuse Games has now confirmed it outright.

In an interview with GamesRadar, CEO and co-founder Matt Webster, formerly of Criterion Games (Burnout, Need for Speed), stated: "You can’t really make a Star Wars racing experience and not have podracing, can you? The core fantasy of the game is becoming an elite racing pilot in the Galactic League, and podracing is a pinnacle of speed and racing in the Star Wars galaxy."

Set in a post-Imperial era where podracing endures beyond its Tatooine heyday, the game innovates on the formula. Webster added: "We wanted to do more – to lean into multiple vehicle types and multiple expressions of speed to give players a breadth of experiences. Galactic Racer offers players the ability to pilot vehicles they know and love, alongside ones they won’t have experienced before, across a range of solo and multiplayer modes."

Revealed features include a runs-based story campaign and PvP multiplayer, with more racer details potentially including Phantom Menace cameos. Fuse Games continues development toward the 2026 launch, building on its racing pedigree.
