Battlefield 6 season 2 introduces new map and progression changes

Electronic Arts has detailed updates for Battlefield 6 season 2, including a new map called Contaminated and improvements to progression systems. The season aims to enhance player experience through streamlined challenges and better weapon handling. Additional content and fixes are planned throughout the season.

Battlefield 6 season 2 is set to launch soon, bringing significant updates based on community feedback. The first content update features Contaminated, a new map focused on intense combat with multiple pathways and flanking options. Accompanying it is a Limited-Time Mode that expands the game's narrative against Pax Armata and adds tactical elements, as shown in a recent story trailer. Later in the season, players can expect a high-intensity map and another Limited-Time Mode set in a dark underground base.

Key improvements target progression. Challenges have broader parameters, reducing mode-specific requirements, removing the daily sidearm challenge from rotation, and allowing assists to count toward daily tasks. The Battle Pass progresses faster, with recalculated token earnings from Career XP and quicker gains via gameplay and weekly challenges. In REDSEC modes like Battle Royale and Gauntlet, Career XP and Weapon XP rates are increased for balance. Early Career ranks now include boosters to support REDSEC-focused players, making progression more rewarding even without direct benefits from unlocks like gadgets or loadouts.

Weapon balance sees consistent recoil compensation for predictable handling, plus tuning for automatic weapons to clarify roles across distances. Player movement is refined for better predictability, with updated acceleration, smoother vaulting and ladder transitions, and fixes for traversal issues. Audio enhancements improve clarity, with better movement cues, sound overlap management, and reliable playback in combat.

Ongoing work includes hit registration, netcode, recoil review, visibility, ping system, and footstep audio. Battlefield Labs will test Time-to-Kill tuning for improved aim accuracy and consistency. Initial tests of the reworked Golmud Railway map received positive feedback on scale and flow, though features like the train are still in development. For REDSEC, changes ensure at least two armor plates drop on death, add more via Class Crates, and introduce a cooldown on Vehicle Keycards to limit tank access.

A full Season Roadmap and Update Notes will follow soon.
