Glenwood Bakery hosts truffle pop-up amid sale talks

The Glenwood Bakery in Durban held a truffle dinner pop-up on 23 July 2026 featuring chef Adam Robinson. The event coincided with ongoing discussions about the bakery's potential sale, first announced in March.

Adam Robinson, who opened The Glenwood Bakery with his wife Carin in 2013, cited physical demands after 40 years in the industry as a reason for considering a handover. A WhatsApp message on 30 March 2026 informed friends and staff that both branches were for sale.

The evening menu included ciabatta with truffle butter, mushroom soup with shaved truffles, and sous vide chicken breast prepared in the classic demi-deuil style. Truffles came from Willowdale Truffles in the Southern Drakensberg, supplied by farmer Max Bastard, while wines were paired by Matt Draper.

Bastard described truffles as elusive ingredients that pair best with humble foods like eggs and potatoes. Attendees also selected books from the late Marco Nico’s collection and entered a raffle for a truffle.

Rumours persist of a potential investor who could maintain the bakery’s current approach, though no sale has been confirmed. Robinson indicated he might continue cooking on a limited basis after any transition.
