香港国际货箱码头营运总监Raymond Lam Wai-kui表示：「香港各行业均受劳工短缺影响，尤其是商用车司机供应非常紧张，我们的港口也不例外。」他补充：「引入这些无人驾驶车辆已帮助我们解决人力短缺带来的部分问题。我们旨在扩展此举措，以满足日常港口运作，而不影响现有员工编制。」
Lam指出，自年初以来，这六辆卡车已在4号码头处理超过8000个货箱搬运。这些卡车配备AI双摄像头、先进定位系统和激光雷达，可在「混合模式」下运作，与传统车辆共用道路，无需专用通道。
和记港口信托隶属于和记港口，为长江和记实业子公司，由李嘉诚家族控制。该举措旨在提升港口效率，应对香港港口的司机短缺问题。
