Ahmed Rostom, Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met Eric Oechslin, director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) office in Cairo, to explore deeper cooperation across key development priorities.

Rostom underscored the strength of Egypt's partnership with the ILO, describing it as grounded in a shared vision to drive economic growth and create sustainable employment opportunities in collaboration with the private sector. He noted that these efforts are central to improving living standards and advancing inclusive development, amid pressures from geopolitical tensions and global uncertainty that demand flexible policies. The government remains committed to its economic reform programme to build resilience against external shocks.

Ensuring macroeconomic stability is a top priority, Rostom said, along with supporting productive sectors like agriculture and industry. He highlighted measures to contain inflation and secure essential goods, drawing on international best practices to enhance Egypt's economic competitiveness, with the private sector as a central pillar.

Oechslin commended the government's efforts to mitigate global and regional challenges, protecting citizens and maintaining labour market stability. He reaffirmed the ILO's readiness to support Egypt's national employment agenda through partnerships focused on youth inclusion, entrepreneurship, and labour market policies, with emphasis on "green jobs" and digital transformation.
