T-Mobile is notifying customers on older phone plans that they will be automatically shifted to modern plans in the coming weeks. Some subscribers face price increases of up to $6 per line.
The company is retiring plans such as Simple Choice, T-Mobile One, One Plus and the Magenta family, along with certain grandfathered Sprint plans. Affected users will receive notice by text or the T-Life app, and changes will appear on upcoming bills.
Customers are being assigned comparable plans with similar features. One example moves a One Plan TE subscriber to Experience More with Appreciation Savings, which adds unlimited high-speed data and 60GB of hotspot usage but requires a $3 monthly fee for Apple TV+.
T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Allan Samson said nothing is required of customers and that the shift brings expanded international roaming and premium 5G speeds. Chief Operating Officer Jon Freier noted in an internal memo that the change eliminates more than 1,100 legacy billing codes to simplify operations.
Subscribers unhappy with their new plan may select another T-Mobile option or switch providers. The T-Mobile Kickback credit program is also being discontinued.
