Hanamaruki Foods to sell liquid shio-koji seasoning to US consumers

Japanese miso maker Hanamaruki Foods Inc. announced it will sell a liquid version of shio-koji seasoning to US consumers starting around this summer. The product is currently on display at a natural food trade show in Anaheim, California. The company anticipates strong retail demand overseas amid rising popularity of fermented foods and koji.

Hanamaruki Foods Inc., a Japanese miso producer, announced on March 6, 2026, that it will launch a liquid shio-koji seasoning for US consumers around this summer. The product will come in 210-milliliter and 500-milliliter bottles, with prices yet to be determined.

The company has sold shio-koji seasoning overseas since 2015, primarily to food manufacturers. This versatile product, used as a marinade for meat and fish, is expected to see robust retail demand due to increasing acceptance of fermented foods and koji abroad. Hanamaruki also plans to offer a version made from organically grown ingredients to appeal to health-conscious buyers.

Nobuyuki Hirata, the company's marketing chief, stated that Hanamaruki aims for shio-koji to gain global recognition as a Japanese seasoning, similar to miso and soy sauce.

The product is currently showcased at a natural food trade show in Anaheim, California, with the announcement originating from Silicon Valley via Jiji Press. This development highlights the expanding reach of Japanese culinary products internationally.
