خططت شركة سبيس إكس لإطلاق نسختها المعاد تصميمها من صاروخ ستار شيب في 3 في 22 مايو، وذلك بعد أن أدت مشكلة فنية إلى توقف محاولة الإطلاق في اليوم السابق.

حددت الشركة موعد الرحلة التجريبية من منشأة ستار بيس في جنوب تكساس، مع نافذة إطلاق تبدأ في الساعة 5:30 مساءً بتوقيت وسط أمريكا في 22 مايو. وتعد هذه الرحلة الأولى للنسخة في 3، التي يزيد ارتفاعها بنحو خمسة أقدام عن الطرازات السابقة وتستخدم محركات رابتور 3 المطورة في كلتا المرحلتين.
