On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Telia's network suffered widespread phone disruptions that led to six out of seven emergency hospitals in Stockholm entering standby mode. The issues were reported as resolved, but on Wednesday evening, December 10, the disruptions returned at Karolinska University Hospital.
An anonymous employee at the hospital describes the chaos: "We have to run around the hospital because we can't call anywhere. We can't reach anyone." They are forced to use private mobiles and run between departments, similar to the situation the previous day. "We are in 2025. This shouldn't happen," they say, suggesting the hospital switch operators after two days of problems.
Svante Norgren, chief physician on standby at Karolinska, explains in an email: "The disruptions affect parts of the internal telephony. Manual routines are being used and the situation in healthcare is stable, despite the disruptions."
Telia confirms these are lingering problems from Tuesday's outage, which also affected regions like Skåne, Uppsala, and Norrbotten. Roija Rafii, Telia's press chief, writes: "We are working actively with Region Stockholm to secure their operations. We are working with the highest priority to resolve this as quickly as possible." Efforts continue to ensure all functions are disruption-free.
