Little Creatures reopens expanded Fremantle brewpub

Little Creatures has unveiled a $10 million revamped brewpub in Fremantle after 25 years, featuring fresh tank-to-tap beer and new dining zones. The venue, located at the Fishing Boat Harbour, opened on March 12 following a three-year redevelopment. It blends the brand's heritage with modern hospitality experiences.

Little Creatures Fremantle, a pioneer in Australia's craft beer scene, marked its 25th anniversary by opening a significantly expanded venue on Thursday, March 12. The $10 million project, completed after three years of development led by Lion's hospitality team, incorporates the original Great Hall—now renamed The Brewhouse—into a larger harbourfront space at 42 Mews Road. This two-level brewpub can host over 1,300 patrons and emphasizes sustainability, with construction handled by Aboriginal-owned builder Dundee Rock.

The venue divides into distinct zones to cater to varied preferences. The Brewhouse serves as a visitor hub for brewery tours, tastings, and merchandise. Cherub Hall, the main bar overlooking the harbour, offers 180-degree views and features a new kitchen with wood-fired ovens, rotisseries, and open-flame grills. Executive Chef Andrew Mann, drawing on over 30 years of global experience, focuses on simple, beer-friendly dishes like wood-fired pizzas, chilli mussels, and shares such as wings and arancini. "It’s about simple, confident food," Mann said. "Great seafood, bold flavours and dishes that work from lunch through late evening."

Upstairs, The Loft provides an elevated Asian-influenced menu with items like butterflied Exmouth prawns and native-spiced kangaroo. The Deck Bar, adjacent to an alfresco area, includes plans for Sunday DJ sessions, TVs for sports, and games like foosball. A standout feature is the tank-to-tap system, delivering Pale Ale and Fremantle Lager directly from the brewery for maximum freshness. Operations Manager Mel Jacobs noted, "In the Cherub Hall, the beer is delivered straight from the source – fresh and ice cold." Head Brewer Russel Gosling added, "Running beer straight from the source means less interference and more flavour in the glass."

Lion Field Sales Director Danny Connolly highlighted the venue's role in the brand's legacy: "For 25 years, Little Creatures has been at the forefront of Australia’s craft beer revolution. Our new venue honours this heritage, while creating an inspiring new and expanded space." Carrie Watson, Lion’s National Operations Manager – Hospitality, described it as a "choose your own adventure," modern yet rooted in Fremantle's spirit. The brewpub is now open daily, adding to Little Creatures' Perth-area locations including Perth Airport and Elizabeth Quay.
