Remedy Entertainment showcased its upcoming Control sequel, Control Resonant, in a late February 2026 digital preview for press. The action RPG centers on Dylan Faden with Jesse in a non-playable role, features aggressive melee combat in a warped Manhattan, addresses dialogue concerns, and introduces agent Zoe De Vera.
Remedy Entertainment revealed extensive details on Control Resonant, the melee-focused action-RPG sequel to its 2019 game Control, during a private online preview event in late February 2026 attended by journalists and content creators. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen, communications director Thomas Puha, senior communications manager Miika Huttunen, and lead gameplay designer Sergey Moho discussed the game's design.
Puha clarified online speculation: "Jesse Faden is not a playable character in Control Resonant. This is Dylan's experience, very much so." Jesse, Dylan's sister and original protagonist, has a significant role. Addressing backlash from a February State of Play trailer where dialogue evoked 'Focus, M' meme comparisons, Puha noted much was placeholder: "We know how to write good dialogue."
Combat emphasizes aggression and momentum, with Dylan's shapeshifting melee weapon, the Aberrant, featuring customizable primary, secondary, and combo-ender forms with upgradable stats. Melee hits restore the Combat Ability resource for abilities that stun enemies, enabling executions which boost damage. "The more you commit to close-range pressure, the more tools you gain," Huttunen said. No parry exists to promote player-driven flow with dodging; it's not Soulslike. Playstyles vary, including summons like Mold Turrets for status effects. Multiple skill trees allow builds but not all unlocks in one playthrough.
The setting moves to a warped Manhattan structured in unique zones, avoiding a full open world. Content focuses on quality: main campaign (Dylan's Journey), self-contained World Quests, puzzles, exploration, and secrets. "Less is more," Kasurinen noted, to prevent overwhelming maps. Players can customize Dylan's clothing and hairstyle anytime.
New FBC agent Zoe De Vera acts as Dylan's handler, forming the emotional core. A Firewatch-inspired dialogue system offers permanent choices during movement but leads to one cohesive ending. "There is no way of going back... we are not doing multiple different endings."
Control Resonant targets 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with Mac support on Steam and App Store. Release is slated for 2026.
In company news, former CEO Tero Virtala stepped down last year after 11 years amid issues with FBC: Firebreak sales; Jean-Charles Gaudechon took over in February 2026.
