Civil Guard to inspect hideout in Esther López case

Spain's Civil Guard will inspect this week a hideout found in the former family home of the sole suspect in Esther López's death, in Traspinedo, Valladolid. The new owner notified the court after discovering the space under a bed during renovations. Investigation sources confirm the on-site check.

The new owner of the house, once the family home of Óscar S.M.—the sole defendant—found the hideout while preparing renovations and reported it to the court.

Sources close to the probe confirmed the concealed space under a bed to the Civil Guard. Agents will conduct an on-site inspection this week to assess any link to the crime.

Esther López, 35, was found dead on February 5, 2022, in a roadside ditch in Traspinedo. Óscar S.M. faces jury trial for murder, or alternatively manslaughter, plus charges of moral integrity violations, illegal detention, and failure to provide aid.

Prosecutors state that in the early hours of January 13, 2022, López rode in S.M.'s Volkswagen T-ROC. After an argument at the family home, she walked away; he followed and struck her from behind at about 40 km/h in an intentional hit. Injuries were non-fatal, but multi-factorial shock led to death after no aid was given.
