Florida woman sentenced in starvation death of boy

A 49-year-old healthcare company owner in Florida was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to charges including third-degree murder in the starvation death of a 7-year-old boy.

Mirlande Moltimer, owner of Samaritin Home Health Care, will serve 20 months in state prison followed by 16 months in federal prison. She must also complete seven years of probation and pay more than $25,000 in restitution. The sentence stems from a plea agreement covering both state and federal cases tied to the death of Deonte Atwell on Christmas Day 2023.
