Government assigns probe into rising anti-HBTQI attitudes

The government has tasked Forum för Levande Historia with investigating why negative attitudes towards HBTQI persons have risen among Swedish school pupils. Equality Minister Nina Larsson (L) called the development unacceptable.

In the latest survey the share of pupils who are very negatively inclined towards HBTQI persons rose from 3 to 15 percent. This marks a trend break as tolerance had previously been increasing.

– This development is completely unacceptable, says Equality Minister Nina Larsson (L). She stresses that more knowledge is needed to make measures effective.

Larsson mentions social media algorithms, widespread honour culture and rising violent right-wing extremism as possible factors. The assignment is to be reported in 2029.
