Ludvika and Fagersta to acquire Vattenfall stake in VB Energi

Ludvika municipal council has unanimously approved the purchase of Vattenfall's shares in VB Energi together with Fagersta municipality.

Ludvika municipal council has unanimously decided to purchase Vattenfall's shares in VB Energi together with Fagersta municipality.

The transaction is the largest in the municipality's history and gives the buyers control of 50.6 percent of the shares in the energy company.

The purchase price amounts to slightly more than 1.4 billion kronor.

The government has signed agreements on state support and co-ownership in Videberg Kraft to build three new reactors at Ringhals. The state will take 60 percent ownership in the company.

From June 15 2026 Västerbergslagens Energi AB and Västerbergslagens Elnät AB are fully owned by the municipalities of Ludvika and Fagersta. The local ownership is set to strengthen energy solutions development in the region.
