Tom Strawson reitet mit günstigem Ex-Rennpferd bei den Badminton Horse Trials

Der Amateur-Vielseitigkeitsreiter Tom Strawson gibt in diesem Frühjahr bei den Badminton Horse Trials auf Public Address, einem günstig erworbenen ehemaligen Rennpferd, sein Fünf-Sterne-Debüt. Der 37-Jährige verbindet seine Vollzeitbeschäftigung in der Immobilienbranche mit Point-to-Point-Rennen und der Jagd.

Tom Strawson, ein ehemaliger Champion-Jockey der Midlands Area, wird Public Address, genannt Brian, bei den vom 6. bis 10. März stattfindenden Badminton Horse Trials reiten. Im vergangenen Jahr belegte er mit dem Pferd den 21. Platz bei den Burghley Horse Trials. Strawson gewann in diesem Frühjahr den Harborough Ride und arbeitet in Vollzeit in der Immobilienwirtschaft, während er den Vielseitigkeitssport als eine von mehreren Leidenschaften verfolgt.

Britain’s Tom McEwen secured third place in the five-star dressage at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event with a score of 25.1. Elizabeth Barratt claimed third in the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S class scoring 29.7. Both riders praised their horses after tests on 24 April.

Professional voices and top riders will combine to cover the Mars Badminton Horse Trials this week. The event runs from 6 to 10 May with live coverage across television, radio and on-site commentary.

Two horses faced scrutiny during the opening trot-up for the Mars Badminton Horse Trials on May 6 but both passed inspection after re-presentation. All 61 entries advanced to dressage as a result. The event marks the start of the five-star competition in Gloucestershire.

Sir Mark Todd, the celebrated eventing champion, has begun riding out for racehorse trainers after retiring from eventing and training. At 70 years old, he works six days a week near Cheltenham in the Cotswolds.

The Mars Badminton Horse Trials will award a record £125,000 to its 2026 winner, an increase of £7,400 from last year. The total prize pot stands at £451,500 for the five-star competition. Prize money for the top 20 finishers depends on the number of starters, with figures based on 80 participants.

The Mars Badminton Horse Trials have released start times for the cross-country phase on May 9, with Harry Meade set to be first out at 11.30am on Et Hop Du Matz.

American rider Boyd Martin has pulled out of next month's Mars Badminton Horse Trials with his horse Miks Master C after it came up sore at a recent event. The 14-year-old gelding owned by OHP Hammertime Partners had been a podium contender. British pairs Selina Milnes on Cooley Snapchat and Harry Mutch on Shanbeg Cooley have also withdrawn.
