Pan Jianwei se convierte en el primer científico chino en ganar un importante premio de la ONU en ciencias básicas

El físico chino Pan Jianwei ha recibido la tercera edición del Premio Internacional UNESCO-Rusia Mendeleev en Ciencias Básicas, convirtiéndose en el primer científico de China en obtener este galardón.

La UNESCO señaló en un comunicado el 10 de julio que Pan Jianwei es reconocido por sus contribuciones fundamentales a las comunicaciones cuánticas seguras a gran escala y a la computación cuántica escalable.

Pan, profesor de física en la Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnología de China, dirige un equipo que desarrolló el satélite Micius. Este satélite permitió la distribución de claves cuánticas y la teletransportación cuántica a lo largo de miles de kilómetros, además de demostrar la ventaja computacional cuántica.

Pan comparte el premio con Sergei Sheiko, profesor de química en la Universidad de Carolina del Norte en Chapel Hill, quien es reconocido por sus investigaciones en física de polímeros que transformaron el diseño racional de materiales blandos.

El galardón anual, financiado por el gobierno ruso, premia a dos científicos por descubrimientos en ciencias básicas que impulsan transformaciones a nivel global o regional. El premio conmemora al químico ruso Dmitri Mendeleev.
