Skellefteå captain Jonathan Pudas nears SHL playoff return

Skellefteå AIK's star defenseman and captain Jonathan Pudas took part in Wednesday's warm-up ahead of the fifth SM-semifinal against Luleå, signaling a potential comeback from injury. The team holds a 3-1 series lead with match point in sight. Pudas, recently named SHL's top defenseman, expressed optimism about returning soon.

Jonathan Pudas has missed action since sustaining a leg injury early in the first SM-semifinal game against Luleå. That match, played at home, became the longest in SM-playoff history, extending into the seventh period. Pudas logged just five shifts and 2:40 of ice time before exiting immediately after the hit on his leg. Skellefteå has advanced without him, now leading 3-1 in the best-of-seven series heading into game five on Wednesday evening at home, where they hold match point. Pudas joined several teammates for intense skating drills during the pre-game warm-up, as reported by Norran. Speaking to the outlet, he said, “I feel good, it's very close to playing. It feels good, hopefully very, very soon I can be out with the guys again.” Despite the progress, he did not suit up for the game. On the same day, Pudas was honored as SHL's best defenseman for the regular season, where he tallied 47 points—16 goals and 31 assists—over 48 games. It marked the fourth time in his career he surpassed 40 points in the league. Skellefteå assistant coach Pierre Johnsson remained cautious, telling Norran, “As usual this time of year, no comments on injuries.”
