In Brussels, South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas held their second strategic dialogue, agreeing to bolster cooperation in security, defense, economy, and trade. According to the foreign ministry, the two sides committed to continuing high-level exchanges, including summit talks, and engaged in in-depth discussions on enhancing substantive cooperation across these areas.
They also shared assessments on the situation in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, as well as the war in Ukraine and the Middle East conflict. South Korea and the EU elevated their ties to a strategic partnership in 2010, expanding collaboration from security and defense to economy, trade, and science and technology. The strategic dialogue was launched in late 2024.
The meeting underscores both parties' emphasis on joint responses to global security and economic challenges. The ministry noted discussions on "ways to enhance substantive cooperation across a wide range of areas," signaling strengthened diplomatic bonds between South Korea and Europe.
