Executives at Build a Rocket Boy collaborated with an AI tool to create 'Arcadia Voice,' an in-game voice assistant for the game MindsEye. The demo has drawn sharp criticism from the game's community. The studio's Head of AI responded to defend the technology.
Mark Gerhard and Leslie Benzies, co-CEOs of Build a Rocket Boy, joined ElevenLabs' Joe Reeve and studio Head of AI Will Jones on April 30, 2026, to 'vibe-code' a new feature for MindsEye using AI. The resulting 'Arcadia Voice' enables voice control within the game's Arcadia mode, allowing players to spawn weapons, objects, and even create new ones by understanding the game state. Reeve shared a video of the demonstration on X, highlighting the collaboration with the former GTA creator and RuneScape CEO. The feature echoes capabilities from the Xbox Kinect era over a decade ago, according to observers. The MindsEye Discord community reacted strongly against the demo, calling it cringe despite their dedication to the game. Will Jones addressed the backlash in a statement on X, emphasizing that AI tools like the coding agent will never replace developers, designers, artists, QA, or performers. 'Games are creative, collaborative, and deeply human,' Jones wrote. He noted his newness to game development, as Build a Rocket Boy marks his first role in the industry.
