DFA: Ipagtataguyod ng Pilipinas ang soberanyang karapatan sa paggalugad ng langis

Siniguro ng Department of Foreign Affairs na anumang desisyon sa pakikipagtulungan sa China o ibang bansa sa langis at gas ay sumusunod sa Saligang Batas, batas at buong pagtataguyod ng soberanya ng bansa. Ito ay sa gitna ng mga komento tungkol sa muling pagbubukas ng usapan sa joint exploration sa South China Sea. Binanggit din ang mga kamakailang pagpupulong ng dalawang bansa noong Marso.

Naglabas ng pahayag ang Department of Foreign Affairs kahapon upang linawin na lahat ng desisyon sa oil at gas cooperation ay magiging alinsunod sa Philippine Constitution, mga batas at "full assertion" ng soberanyang karapatan ng Pilipinas.

Ito ay tumugon sa mga kamakailang komento mula sa ilang sektor tungkol sa muling pagbubukas ng usapan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China sa oil at gas cooperation. Ayon sa pahayag, sa gitna ng global energy uncertainties at National Energy Emergency, iginiit ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pangangailangan na tuklasin ang lahat ng batas na opsyon para sa energy security at abot-kayang suplay ng enerhiya para sa ekonomiya at mamamayan.

Nangyari ang mga "initial exchanges" sa potensyal na joint exploration sa South China Sea noong 24th Foreign Ministry Consultations at 11th Meeting of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea noong March 27 at 28 sa Quanzhou City, Fujian province, China. Doon, tinalakay ang preliminary steps para sa cooperation at stable na energy at fertilizer access. Magpapatuloy ang DFA sa pagtataguyod ng international law, peaceful settlement ng mga alitan, at sentralidad ng soberanyang awtoridad ng Pilipinas sa natural resources at maritime entitlements.
