Joe Coffee plans second location in Palm Springs

Joe Coffee, a beloved café from Provincetown, Massachusetts, is set to open its first West Coast outpost in Palm Springs' Sunny Dunes District. The new spot at 577 East Sunny Dunes Road will bring the original's strong coffee, baked goods, and community vibe to the area. Owners Mark Shaw and Glenn Siegmund aim to foster inclusivity and local engagement when it launches in late December 2026.

Joe Coffee has been a fixture in Provincetown since 1998, offering strong coffee, fresh baked goods, and a welcoming atmosphere on the corner of Commercial Street and Winthrop Street. Now, owners Mark Shaw and Glenn Siegmund, lifelong friends who remain involved in daily operations, are expanding to Palm Springs, California. The new café will occupy a building at 577 East Sunny Dunes Road, designed by architect Howard Lapham, whose work shaped the city's architectural heritage. It will be located behind Jaco Moretti Arts and visible from Sunny Dunes Road, in a district home to businesses like Townie Bagel and Plant This.

In an interview with Eric Gray, Siegmund and Shaw explained their choice of location. "I spend my winters here in beautiful Palm Springs. I am retired and I really enjoy working with the community," they said, noting that the Sunny Dunes District is vibrant and ready for revitalization. The building owners, Harvey and Jon, are Provincetown residents and Joe Coffee customers, which facilitated the move.

The café will emphasize community synergy, serving as a gathering space to attract new visitors and highlight bike trails, local businesses, and nightlife. The menu will mirror the original, featuring in-house baked goods, vegan and gluten-free options, and coffee from Indigo Roasters in Western Massachusetts—USDA organic, fair trade, and kosher blends roasted to order. West Coast favorites may be added based on customer input.

Inclusivity remains core, with the space described as dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and LGBTQ-friendly—a safe haven for all. Siegmund plans to be hands-on, acting as a greeter to maintain the brand's experience. Baristas will be trained in the craft of espresso, focusing on customized drinks and warm interactions.

Beyond coffee, the location will showcase local talent, including artists and musicians, much like in Provincetown. For first-time customers, the owners hope to deliver a sense of discovery in a great neighborhood, friendly service, and exceptional beverages.
