रिजर्व बैंक ऑफ इंडिया (आरबीआई) गवर्नर संजय मल्होत्रा ने 18 अप्रैल को अमेरिका के प्रिंसटन विश्वविद्यालय में भाषण दिया, जिसमें पश्चिम एशिया युद्ध के आर्थिक प्रभावों पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा, “द्वितीय-चरण प्रभाव वास्तविक चिंता हैं।” यदि आपूर्ति श्रृंखला बाधाएं लंबे समय तक बनी रहीं, तो आपूर्ति झटका सामान्य मूल्य स्तर में समाहित हो सकता है।

आरबीआई ने इस महीने की शुरुआत में मौद्रिक नीति समिति (एमपीसी) के माध्यम से रेपो दर को 5.25% पर अपरिवर्तित रखा और 2026-27 में खुदरा महंगाई 4.6% रहने का अनुमान लगाया। मल्होत्रा ने कहा कि ऐसी स्थिति में नीति पथ पर "कठोर प्रतिबद्धताएं" से बचा जाना चाहिए और डेटा-आधारित रहना जरूरी है।

पश्चिम एशिया भारत के निर्यात का एक-छठा, आयात का एक-पांचवां, कच्चे तेल आयात का आधा, उर्वरक आयात का दो-पांचवां और inward remittances का लगभग दो-पांचवां हिस्सा प्रदान करता है। संकट के जवाब में घरेलू तेल-गैस उत्पादन बढ़ाया जा रहा है, आयात स्रोत विविधीकृत किए जा रहे हैं। तेल की कोई कमी नहीं, लेकिन औद्योगिक गैस में कुछ राशनिंग है।

मार्च में रुपये की कीमत 92-95 प्रति डॉलर से नीचे गिर गई, विदेशी पोर्टफोलियो निवेशक (एफपीआई) ने मार्च में 13.6 अरब डॉलर और अप्रैल में अब तक 6.3 अरब डॉलर के भारतीय संपत्तियों की बिक्री की। खुदरा महंगाई 3.4% पर स्थिर रही, लेकिन थोक महंगाई 3.88% पर 38 माह के उच्च स्तर पर पहुंची।
