Chinese automakers lead Beijing Auto Show 2026 with electromobility focus

Chinese manufacturers dominated the Beijing Auto Show 2026, the largest in automotive history, unveiling a wave of new energy vehicles (NEV). Brands like BYD, Geely, and Great Wall Motors showcased advanced electric and hybrid models, several confirmed for Chile. The event underscores China's global lead in electrification.

The Beijing Auto Show 2026, also known as Auto China, gathered top Chinese automakers, who shone with electromobility innovations. BYD debuted the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, the world's fastest production car at 496.22 km/h, alongside the dealership-ready U9X ‘The Dawn’. It also displayed the Yuan Pro DM-i hybrid SUV with 1,045 km range and the updated Atto 3 with 326 horsepower and 630 km autonomy.

Great Wall Motors featured its brands Haval, Poer, Tank, Wey, and Ora, including the Ora 5 crossover in hybrid (220 Hp) and electric (201 Hp, 435 km range) versions, set for Chile in 2026. Geely unveiled the Smart #2 concept for Paris 2026 and the Smart #6 PHEV with 1,810 km combined range, plus Lynk & Co's first GT presented by Stefan Rosén.

Xiaomi showed the SU7 update for Europe, which garnered 15,000 reservations in 34 minutes. In large SUVs, Leapmotor introduced the 5.2-meter D19 with seven seats, Haval the 5.41-meter 4x4 H7, and Li Auto the L9 with massaging seats and AI-adjusted sound.

New sub-brands like Geely's Zeerk, BYD's Denza, BAIC's Arcfox, Chery's Freelander, and SAIC's IM Motors will debut in Chile this year, featuring premium EVs including solid-state batteries in IM's L6.
