NVIDIA announces DLSS 4.5 updates and RTX features at GDC 2026

At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2026, NVIDIA revealed expansions to its DLSS 4.5 technology, including dynamic multi frame generation set for release on March 31. The company also highlighted integrations in upcoming games and new RTX tools for enhanced graphics. Additional announcements covered driver updates and cloud gaming improvements.

NVIDIA made several key announcements at GDC 2026, focusing on advancements in AI-driven graphics for PC gaming. The event, which draws over 30,000 industry professionals, featured updates to DLSS 4.5, NVIDIA's deep learning super sampling technology. Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, which adjusts generated frames to target desired frame rates while balancing quality and responsiveness, will debut as an opt-in beta in the NVIDIA app on March 31. This feature, along with 6X Multi Frame Generation mode, is exclusive to GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and requires GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL or newer.

Twenty games are adopting DLSS 4.5, including 007 First Light launching May 27 with path tracing, CONTROL Resonant this year with path tracing and RTX Mega Geometry, and Tides of Annihilation. Other titles span AAA and indie, such as Directive 8020, Sea of Remnants, Samson (April 8), and War Thunder upgrades. Path-traced effects will appear in 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant, Directive 8020, Sea of Remnants, and Tides of Annihilation for improved image quality on PC.

RTX innovations included the Mega Geometry foliage system, debuting in The Witcher 4 via collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED. This compresses geometry for dense environments, enabling path tracing of millions of plants and trees with real-time lighting. "We can’t wait for players to experience this level of detail in The Witcher 4," said Cezary Bella, Rendering Engineer at CD PROJEKT RED. The system, first seen in Alan Wake 2, will also integrate into CONTROL Resonant later this year. NVIDIA RTX Kit expanded with ReSTIR PT for better path-traced lighting on glossy surfaces.

A new Game Ready Driver supports Crimson Desert and DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, both featuring DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation. GeForce NOW will offer up to 90 FPS on VR headsets like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest from March 19, plus GOG account linking. RTX Remix previewed advanced particle VFX in a Quake III Arena RTX demo, and a Battlefield 6 reward skin is available via the NVIDIA app.

These updates aim to enhance performance and visuals across RTX AI PCs, with open-sourcing of Mega Geometry innovations planned later this year.

Nvidia has teased DLSS 5, a new real-time neural rendering technology that uses generative AI to enhance lighting and textures in games. The feature has drawn overwhelmingly negative reactions from gamers and developers for producing uncanny, homogenized visuals. Nvidia insists developers retain full artistic control.

At the Game Developers Conference 2026 in San Francisco, generative AI tools drew mixed reactions, with demos from Google highlighting potential uses amid widespread developer skepticism. A recent industry report showed 52% of companies using the technology, but only 36% of workers incorporating it into their jobs, and 52% viewing it as harmful to the sector.
