Golf instructor shares fixes for early extension swing flaw

GOLF Top 100 Teacher Tony Ruggiero outlined common causes and solutions for early extension in the golf swing.

Early extension occurs when the pelvis shifts forward during the downswing, reducing space for the hands and arms and leading to inconsistent contact and lost power. Ruggiero noted that many instances stem from setup issues, such as positioning the base of the spine too far from the target at address. He recommended feeling the base of the spine under the top of the spine with a slight lead hip bump toward the target and proper hip hinge so shoulders align over the toes.
