Santander abbatterà 55 alberi a causa di specie invasive e danni ai marciapiedi

Il consiglio comunale di Santander prevede di abbattere oltre cinquanta alberi urbani nelle prossime settimane. Cinque esemplari saranno rimossi a causa del soffocamento provocato dal cemento e i restanti perché si tratta di specie invasive.

Il sindaco Gema Igual ha giustificato il provvedimento come ultima risorsa dopo aver valutato opzioni tecniche come l'allargamento delle aiuole. Gli alberi interessati si trovano in strade come Calvo Sotelo, Rualasal, Canalejas, Tetuán e Jesús de Monasterio.

Tra gli esemplari figurano degli ailanti, che il consiglio considera dannosi a causa della loro capacità di ricacci. Altri cinque liquidambar e un tulipifero saranno sostituiti poiché le loro radici hanno sollevato i marciapiedi e costituiscono un rischio per i pedoni.

Il consiglio comunale sostituirà queste specie con carpini bianchi, che sono meglio adattati all'ambiente urbano. Santander conta un totale di 63.000 alberi, sebbene il centro città abbia perso diversi esemplari negli ultimi anni.
