Santander eliminará 55 árboles por invasión y daños en aceras

El Ayuntamiento de Santander planea talar más de medio centenar de árboles urbanos en las próximas semanas. Cinco ejemplares serán retirados por asfixia del cemento y el resto por tratarse de una especie invasora.

La alcaldesa Gema Igual justificó la medida como último recurso tras evaluar opciones técnicas como ampliar los alcorques. Los árboles afectados se encuentran en calles como Calvo Sotelo, Rualasal, Canalejas, Tetuán y Jesús de Monasterio.

Entre los ejemplares destacan ailantos que el consistorio considera nocivos por su capacidad de rebrote. Otros cinco liquidámbares y un tulipero serán sustituidos porque sus raíces han levantado las aceras y generan riesgos para los peatones.

El Ayuntamiento reemplazará estas especies por carpinus betulus, más adaptados al entorno urbano. Santander cuenta con 63.000 árboles en total, aunque el centro ha perdido varios ejemplares en años recientes.
