Santander removerá 55 árvores por invasão e danos às calçadas

A prefeitura de Santander planeja cortar mais de cinquenta árvores urbanas nas próximas semanas. Cinco espécimes serão removidos devido ao sufocamento pelo cimento e o restante por serem uma espécie invasora.

A prefeita Gema Igual justificou a medida como um último recurso após avaliar opções técnicas, como o alargamento das covas das árvores. As árvores afetadas estão localizadas em ruas como Calvo Sotelo, Rualasal, Canalejas, Tetuán e Jesús de Monasterio. Entre os espécimes estão árvores-do-céu, que o conselho considera prejudiciais devido à sua capacidade de rebrota. Outras cinco liquidâmbares e uma tulipeira serão substituídas porque suas raízes elevaram as calçadas e representam riscos aos pedestres. A prefeitura substituirá essas espécies por carpinos, que são mais bem adaptados ao ambiente urbano. Santander tem 63.000 árvores no total, embora o centro da cidade tenha perdido vários espécimes nos últimos anos.
