Government launches tender to privatize sections of national routes

The Argentine government announced the launch of a public tender to concession 1,800 kilometers of national routes and highways to the private sector. The measure is part of the second stage of the Federal Concessions Network and includes key sections in the central region. Economy Minister Luis Caputo hailed the initiative as a step toward more efficient infrastructure.

On Monday, the national government announced the start of a national and international public tender for two route sections totaling 1,800 kilometers, to be managed by private companies. This action is part of the second stage of the Federal Concessions Network, covering more than 4,400 kilometers divided into eight sections in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis, and La Pampa.

The sections up for tender are the Sur – Atlántico – Acceso Sur, spanning 1,325 km, including national routes 3, 205, and 206, as well as the Ricchieri, Newbery, and Ezeiza-Cañuelas highways; and the Pampa Section, 547 km on RN 5 from Luján to Santa Rosa. These corridors connect localities such as Mercedes, Suipacha, Chivilcoy, Alberti, Bragado, Nueve de Julio, Carlos Casares, Pehuajó, Trenque Lauquen, Pellegrini, Catriló, and Santa Rosa, and provide access to the Paraná ports around Rosario.

"We are replacing a deficit model with one that is transparent, competitive, and without Treasury subsidies," declared Economy Minister Luis Caputo during the announcement. On his X account, Caputo added: "working to have more modern road infrastructure, encouraging private investment and at the same time taking care of the resources of Argentines." The process advanced following public hearings held in June for all sections, fulfilling citizen participation requirements.

Additionally, offers are expected to be revealed this Tuesday for operating the Mercosur route, in a new step toward privatizations promoted by Javier Milei's government.
