Hongkonger reported missing in Iran amid protests

A young Hong Kong woman known as travel blogger 'Bing' has been reported missing in Iran for many days. Her family contacted the Immigration Department, which is liaising with the Chinese consulate in Bandar Abbas. The disappearance comes amid an internet shutdown and protests in the country.

The Immigration Department said on Friday that it had received a relevant inquiry and was in touch with the Chinese consulate in Bandar Abbas and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ local arm in the city. A source confirmed that the inquiry came from the family of a young female traveller who could not be contacted in Iran.

A social media post by a travel blogger known as “Bing” gained traction on Thursday. The Threads post, published on January 6, featured a short compilation video of Bing’s journey in Iran, showing photos and a collection of short film clips of her and people she had met.

A user named “hmting” commented that Bing was her sister who had gone missing. Keywords associated with the post include December, BB Hostel, and Hong Kong passport, though no further details were provided.

The incident occurs amid an internet shutdown and protests in Iran, raising concerns for Bing's safety. The Immigration Department is assisting the family in following up.
