Tropical Depression Five-E strengthened on July 15 and became Tropical Storm Elida in the Pacific Ocean, the National Meteorological Service reported.
Elida’s center was located 910 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. The storm recorded sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 85 kilometers per hour, moving west at 24 kilometers per hour.
The National Meteorological Service stated that Elida poses no risk to Mexico’s coasts. Its path remains over open sea and away from national territory.
According to the forecast, the system will strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane and then Category 2 before losing intensity. Authorities recommended following official updates from the agency and the National Water Commission.
