27일 중국과 러시아 군용기 약 10대가 한국 방공식별구역(KADIZ)에 잠시 진입했다가 이탈했다고 합동참모본부가 밝혔다.
합동참모본부는 이날 오전 중국과 러시아 군용기가 동해와 남해 상공의 KADIZ에 순차적으로 진입한 후 퇴각했다고 전했다. 이들 항공기는 폭격기와 전투기를 포함한 것으로 알려졌으며 한국 영공은 침범하지 않았다.
한국군은 항공기가 KADIZ에 들어오기 전에 탐지하고 공군 전투기를 출격시켜 대비 태세를 갖췄다. 방공식별구역은 영공이 아니며 우발적 충돌을 막기 위해 외국 항공기의 신원을 확인하도록 설정된 구역이다.
이번 진입은 양국 간 합동 공중 훈련 중 발생한 것으로 보인다. 중국 국방부는 이를 11번째 합동 전략 공중 순찰이라고 밝히며 지역 평화와 안정을 지키기 위한 것이라고 주장했다.
지난해 12월에도 중국과 러시아 군용기 9대가 KADIZ에 진입한 바 있으며 2019년 이후 매년 한두 차례 비슷한 사례가 있었다.
