He noted that drivers can pass others on straights simply by using battery power while doing nothing else, calling the process "very different" from traditional racing. He said real fans understand the change is not authentic, even if casual viewers see more overtakes.

The comments came after Verstappen joked in Belgium that critics might "shoot" him for speaking out. He later clarified the remark in Hungary, stating he was only joking.
