Capcom producer says Resident Evil remakes enable new projects

Producer Masachika Kawata confirmed in an interview that remakes of Resident Evil games help Capcom maintain a yearly release schedule while supporting original titles such as Pragmata.

Kawata spoke with Game Informer about the balance between remakes and new entries in the series. He noted that revisiting older games allows the studio to release a Resident Evil title each year and gives teams opportunities to refine their skills.

The producer stated that remakes are as important as mainline games. He added that this cycle has supported projects including the 2026 sci-fi title Pragmata.

Kawata also mentioned upcoming plans, including a remake of Code Veronica scheduled for next year. The approach follows the success of titles such as the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake and 2021’s Village.
