Governo reduz padrões de qualidade de combustíveis por seis meses

Em um comunicado de 30 de abril de 2026, o Secretário de Gabinete de Comércio, Lee Kinyanjui, anunciou que o Ministério do Comércio e Investimentos aprovou uma isenção temporária que eleva os limites de enxofre para 50mg/kg no óleo diesel automotivo e na gasolina premium por seis meses.

"Esta medida é temporária e visa garantir a disponibilidade contínua de combustível e sustentar a estabilidade econômica durante o atual período de interrupção global no fornecimento", disse Kinyanjui.

A decisão ocorreu após solicitações de partes interessadas do setor petrolífero e consultas a especialistas técnicos, incluindo o Bureau de Padrões do Quênia (KEBS) e o Conselho Nacional de Padrões. Anteriormente, os limites de enxofre eram mais rígidos, em 10mg/kg, sob as normas KS EAS 158:2025 para gasolina e KS EAS 177:2025 para diesel.

Kinyanjui vinculou o ajuste ao conflito em curso no Oriente Médio, particularmente à disputa pelo fechamento do Estreito de Ormuz, que interrompeu os suprimentos de combustível dos países do Golfo, tornando necessária a medida para evitar desabastecimento.
