KPC permitiu combustível fora dos padrões por ordem do ministro Kinyanjui

O gerente da Kenya Pipeline Company, Pius Mwenda, afirmou que a empresa permitiu a entrada de combustível com altos níveis de enxofre após uma diretiva do ministro Lee Kinyanjui. O caso ocorreu em 27 de março de 2026 e foi confirmado ontem perante o Comitê de Energia. O combustível foi misturado a outros estoques para reduzir os riscos.

Pius Mwenda, gerente geral da Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), testemunhou ontem perante o Comitê de Energia, declarando que houve apenas dois casos de combustível fora dos padrões permitidos no país.

Um deles ocorreu em 2019, quando 108.203 toneladas no MT Ocean Tiara foram rejeitadas por má qualidade. Mais recentemente, em 27 de março de 2026, 60.000 toneladas no MT Paloma foram testadas e rejeitadas devido aos altos níveis de enxofre e manganês.

"Recebemos aquele carregamento em 27 de março de 2026 e, após testar o combustível, constatamos que ele apresentava altos níveis de enxofre. No entanto, seguimos a ordem do ministro Kinyanjui e permitimos o combustível conforme suas instruções", disse Mwenda.

Uma carta de 28 de março do ministro Kinyanjui ao ministro de Energia, Opiyo Wandayi, ordenava a mistura do combustível com outros estoques para diluir os níveis minerais. O documento também instruiu a KPC e a EPRA a controlar a distribuição até que um novo carregamento chegasse em 3 ou 4 de abril. Mwenda observou que o proprietário foi instruído a remover o produto do sistema da KPC.
