KPC iliruhusu mafuta mabovu kwa amri ya Waziri Kinyanjui

Meneja Msimamizi wa Kenya Pipeline Company Pius Mwenda amesema kampuni iliruhusu mafuta yenye kiwango cha juu cha Sulphur kutokana na maagizo ya Waziri Lee Kinyanjui. Hii ilitokea mnamo Machi 27, 2026, na ilithibitishwa jana mbele ya Kamati ya Nishati. Mafuta hayo yalichanganywa na mengine ili kupunguza hatari.

Meneja Msimamizi wa Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), Pius Mwenda, alifanya ushuhuda jana mbele ya Kamati ya Nishati, akisema kuna matukio mawili tu ya mafuta mabovu yaliyoruhusiwa nchini.

Moja ni ya 2019, ambapo tani 108,203 za mafuta kwenye meli ya MT Ocean Tiara zilikataliwa kwa ubora duni. Ya hivi karibuni, mnamo Machi 27, 2026, tani 60,000 za mafuta kwenye MT Paloma zilipimwa na kukataliwa kwa kiwango cha juu cha Sulphur na Manganese.

"Tulipata shehena hiyo mnamo Machi 27, 2026 na baada ya kuyapima mafuta hayo tuligundua yalikuwa na kiwango cha juu cha Sulphur. Hata hivyo, tulifuata amri ya Waziri Kinyanjui na kuruhusu mafuta hayo kulingana na maagizo yake," alisema Mwenda.

Barua ya Machi 28 kutoka kwa Waziri Kinyanjui kwa Waziri wa Nishati Opiyo Wandayi iliagiza kuchanganya mafuta hayo na mengine ili kupunguza kiwango cha madini hayo. Pia iliamrisha KPC na EPRA kudhibiti usambazaji hadi shehena nyingine ya Aprili 3 au 4. Mwenda alisema mmiliki wa mafuta aliiambiwa aondoe bidhaa hiyo kutoka mfumo wa KPC.
