Waziri Wandayi atangaza mipango ya akiba ya mafuta ya muda mrefu

Waziri wa Nishati na Petroli Opiyo Wandayi ametangaza mipango ya kuanzisha akiba ya mafuta ya muda mrefu ili kuzuia upungufu wa mafuta nchini Kenya. Alisema hii baada ya kutoa taarifa mbele ya kamati ya Bunge siku ya Jumatatu, Aprili 13, 2026. Nchi kwa sasa inategemea usambazaji wa mara kwa mara bila akiba rasmi.

Wandayi alionekana mbele ya Kamati ya Idara ya Bunge la Taifa kuhusu Nishati siku ya Aprili 13, akikiri kuwa Kenya bado haijaanzisha akiba ya mafuta. "Hatuanzishi bado akiba ya mafuta. Tunashirikiana kwa karibu na wachezaji wa kibinafsi wanaotaka kushirikiana na serikali kuhusu uhifadhi, lakini kwa sasa nchi inategemea mafuta inapokuja," alisema Wandayi.

Hii inakuja wakati Kenya inakabiliwa na upungufu wa mafuta kutokana na mzozo wa Mashariki ya Kati, na Kenya Pipeline Corporation inasema nchi inaweza kushikilia mafuta ya siku 21 tu. Kuna pia mjadala wa hivi karibuni kuhusu mafuta duni yenye thamani ya Ksh4.8 bilioni yaliyoagizwa nje ya makubaliano ya serikali-kwa-serikali.

Wandayi alikanusha wito wa kujiuzulu juu ya sagi hiyo, akisema hakuna sababu ya kuacha wajibu wake na uchunguzi utamwafikia. Alisema mafuta duni hayajazingatiwa katika bei na serikali itachukua hatua za kuwakinga watumiaji.

Mipango hii itatumia mfumo wa ushirikiano wa umma na kibinafsi chini ya serikali ya Kenya Kwanza ya Rais William Ruto, ili kuimarisha usalama wa nishati.
