Wandayi anaanzisha upya mradi wa mafuta South Lokichar

Waziri wa Nishati na Petroli, Opiyo Wandayi, ameongoza sherehe ya kuanza mradi wa South Lokichar Oil Project katika Kaunti ya Turkana. Ameahidi kwamba mafuta ya kwanza yatasafirishwa Mombasa kabla ya mwaka kuisha. Wakazi na viongozi wa eneo wamemtaka uwazi zaidi katika utekelezaji wa mradi.

Waziri Opiyo Wandayi aliongoza sherehe ya kuanza mradi wa South Lokichar Oil Project siku ya Jumamosi, Aprili 25, katika Kaunti ya Turkana. Mradi huu umefufuliwa karibu miaka 14 baada ya ugunduzi wa mafuta na kampuni ya Uingereza mwaka 2012.

Wakati wa sherehe, Wandayi aliahidi, “Nataka kuwahakikishia kwamba kabla ya mwisho wa mwaka huu, mafuta haya yatasafirishwa Mombasa ili Turkana na nchi nzima ione faida zake.” Aliongeza, “Tutashirikiana kwa karibu na uongozi wa serikali ya kaunti ya Turkana kutatua matatizo yanayoweza kutokea.

Viongozi wa eneo na wakazi walitumia fursa hiyo kutoa maombi ya uwazi zaidi, wakiomba serikali ifichue mpango wa maendeleo ya uwanja wa mafuta na mkataba wa kushiriki mazao. Hii imetokea siku chache baada ya Rais William Ruto kutoa wito wa kujitegemea katika mkutano wa bara Nairobi.

Basi la Lokichar linaakidiwa kuwa na akiba zaidi ya mapipa milioni 560 ya mafuta. Kampuni ya Tullow Oil iliondoka Aprili 2025, na Gulf Company ikachukua mradi. Serikali iliidhinisha mpango wa maendeleo Januari, na maendeleo ya miundombinu kama barabara na mpango wa reli ya KSh 220 bilioni.
