Wandayi relança projeto de petróleo de South Lokichar em Turkana

Líderes locais e residentes exigiram transparência, pedindo a divulgação do plano de desenvolvimento do campo e do contrato de partilha de produção. A cerimônia seguiu o apelo do presidente William Ruto por autossuficiência em uma cúpula continental em Nairóbi na quinta-feira, com a presença do presidente de Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. Acredita-se que a Bacia de Lokichar contenha mais de 560 milhões de barris de petróleo. A empresa britânica Tullow Oil saiu em abril de 2025, com a Gulf Company assumindo o controle. O governo aprovou o plano de desenvolvimento em janeiro, juntamente com infraestruturas como as estradas do corredor norte e um plano de reativação ferroviária de KSh 220 bilhões de Nakuru para South Lokichar.
