SEOUL, May 1 (Yonhap) -- A Gallup Korea survey found 59% of respondents favor raising South Korea's senior age threshold to 70 from the current 65 for benefits eligibility.

Conducted from Tuesday to Thursday among 1,002 adults aged 18 and older, the poll showed 30% opposed and 12% either unsure or declined to answer. Similar surveys in 2015 and 2023 recorded 46% and 60% support, respectively.

Additionally, 60% believe individuals should primarily handle their own livelihood in old age. Some 29% said the government and society bear responsibility, 4% pointed to offspring, and 3% chose other options. Across all age groups, more than half favored personal responsibility.
