Skyblivion mod delayed to 2026 with new screenshots released

The team behind the Skyblivion mod has shared new screenshots from the project, highlighting improvements to locations from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Originally slated for 2025, the release has been pushed to 2026 following Bethesda's announcement of an official Oblivion remaster. This fan-made remake aims to recreate Oblivion's world using Skyrim's engine while preserving original mechanics.

The Skyblivion project, a free fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion built on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's engine, has faced a delay to 2026. The development team announced the postponement in December 2025, citing the need for final touches and the disruption caused by Bethesda's official Oblivion remaster plans. This mod ports the entire region of Cyrodiil, including its locations, NPCs, and towns, into Skyrim's graphical framework.

To build anticipation, the team posted new screenshots on their Bluesky account. Captured by modder Hinimoto, these images showcase Wendelbek, a large Ayleid ruin located east of Bravil in Oblivion. Compared to the original, Skyblivion's version appears darker with more efficient organic lighting, achieving a realistic aesthetic akin to Skyrim's Ayleid ruins.

Skyblivion plans to include 223 quests, comprising ports of Oblivion's originals and new content created by the modders. Expansions like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine will arrive in a post-launch update. The mod retains Oblivion-specific mechanics absent in Skyrim, such as the class system and lockpicking, ensuring it diverges from Skyrim's controls and gameplay despite sharing the engine.

No exact release date has been set for 2026, but the project is expected to bridge the gap until Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls VI, which remains in early development since its 2018 announcement.
