Xbox faces extended server outage on monday

Xbox online services suffered a major outage on July 27 that blocked players from signing in, accessing game libraries, and launching both digital and physical titles. The issues persisted for hours and followed a similar PlayStation Network disruption the previous week.

Reports of problems began early on July 27, with users noting issues from around 5 a.m. BST. Affected services included account and profile functions, the store, games and gaming, and apps and mobile, according to the live status page.

Xbox Support posted updates throughout the day. At 7:54 a.m. EST the account stated teams were working on game library, sign-in, and launch problems. A 2:30 p.m. ET message said engineers remained focused on multiple angles.

By 4 p.m. ET the company reported that things were slowly improving while apologizing for the duration of the outage. Players worldwide could still encounter launch failures along with sign-in and purchase issues at that time.

Users expressed frustration in comments and forums, noting the impact on owned and disc-based games. The event renewed discussion about reliance on server checks for future all-digital consoles.
