Formula 1 has agreed on adjustments to its power unit rules following a vote in the F1 Commission.
The changes shift the balance between internal combustion engine and electric power to a 58-42 split next year before moving to a 60-40 ratio in 2028. The decision was reached through a supermajority vote rather than unanimous approval.
Max Verstappen welcomed the outcome ahead of the Barcelona Grand Prix. He said the adjustments are heading in the right direction while acknowledging the politics that prevented a full 60-40 split from being introduced immediately.
Fernando Alonso offered a more cautious view. The two-time world champion noted that the fundamental design of the regulations will continue to reward slower cornering speeds to maximize energy on straights.
The revisions still require formal ratification by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
