Audi chief executive Gernot Dollner has called for regulatory stability in Formula 1 power units ahead of the 2027 season. The company wants to avoid major hardware changes that would require additional investment.
Dollner spoke to media in Monaco and stressed the need to control costs while Audi ramps up its involvement in the sport. He said the focus should remain on optimising the current drivetrain concept rather than introducing new rules that demand hardware modifications. The FIA had announced an agreement in principle on a 60/40 split between internal combustion and electric power before the Canadian Grand Prix. Audi indicated it could accept smaller adjustments, such as a modest increase in fuel flow, provided they do not trigger significant spending. Dollner noted that Audi's resources are better directed toward improving competitiveness on the track. He added that any broader changes would need approval across the Volkswagen Group and could slow the brand's development path.
