Bbva to invest over $300 billion in artificial intelligence in Colombia

BBVA Group announced an investment exceeding $300 billion in artificial intelligence and technological capabilities in Colombia, marking its 30 years of operations in the country. The plan involves a partnership with OpenAI to speed up AI adoption in its processes. Mario Pardo, the bank's executive president in Colombia, emphasized the shift to a customer-centered banking model using AI.

BBVA Colombia unveiled plans to invest more than $300 billion in artificial intelligence as part of its forward strategy. The commitment coincides with the bank's 30th anniversary of operations in the country and aims to embed AI in key areas such as customer service, decision-making, and operational efficiency.

Mario Pardo, executive president of BBVA in Colombia, stated: “BBVA was a pioneer in the digital transformation of banking. Now we are taking the next step: integrating artificial intelligence into our services and products, so that the customer has a next-level experience”.

The institution already employs these technologies in solutions like personalized advice, financial inclusion for users without credit history, fraud detection, and request management. Globally, BBVA has 127,000 employees accessing AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini, following over 300,000 hours of training.

This investment seeks to strengthen the bank's digital transformation and establish artificial intelligence as a core pillar of its financial business in Colombia.
