Schwarz Group, som äger Lidl, investerar 500 miljoner euro i den kanadensiska AI-leverantören Cohere. Tyska Aleph Alpha från Heidelberg kommer att bli en del av Cohere. Affären syftar till att göra Tyskland mer oberoende av amerikanska AI-leverantörer.

Schwarz Group har investerat 500 miljoner euro i Cohere, en kanadensisk AI-specialist från Toronto. Som en del av uppgörelsen kommer Aleph Alpha, ett AI-företag från Heidelberg, att bli en del av Cohere. Båda företagen positionerar sig som alternativ till amerikanska teknikjättar.

Fusionen är betydelsefull för regeringarna i Tyskland och Kanada i den globala konkurrensen om artificiell intelligens. Målet är att minska Tysklands beroende av amerikanska leverantörer. Schwarz Group eftersträvar ytterligare ett mål med investeringen, vilket dock inte specificerades närmare.

Platser som Berlin och Düsseldorf nämns i samband med affären, medan Aleph Alpha är baserat i Heidelberg och Cohere i Toronto.
